In MalikMata, players take on the role of a dreamer navigating surreal environments inspired by Philippine folklore. The core gameplay revolves around exploration, survival, and cultural discovery.

Players begin in the Library, where they learn the basic mechanics and begin collecting essential items such as keys, batteries, and lore pages.

As they progress into new dreamscapes like the Forest, Graveyard, and Church, they encounter mythical creatures including the Duwende, Tikbalang, Bal-Bal, and Manananggal. Survival depends on careful resource management and strategic decision-making.

Players must use stealth to hide from hostile creatures, conserve batteries to maintain flashlight visibility, and solve puzzles to unlock new areas. Each encounter challenges the player to evade or repel threats while continuing their search for lore pages.

These collectible pages serve as the educational backbone of the game, gradually unlocking entries in the Book that provide cultural context and background about each creature. The gameplay loop emphasizes tension and curiosity: explore eerie environments, gather resources, solve puzzles, and survive encounters.

Progression is achieved by completing dream sequences and collecting all lore entries, culminating in a final confrontation that blends horror with cultural storytelling. By intertwining survival mechanics with educational content, MalikMata ensures that every moment of gameplay contributes both to player immersion and to the preservation of Philippine folklore.
